How to Enter

Presentation

Choose an issue of your journal which was published in the year covered by the competition and send three identical copies, along with three copies of the completed Entry Form, to the chairman of the judging panel by the closing date (full details are on the entry form).

You may also wish to add extra information identifying any items missing from the submission, for example annual publications listings, or items not included as a matter of society policy, for example reports of meetings. Supporting items may be sent in addition but bulky items, such as members' interests directories, should not be sent - a note describing and identifying such items will be sufficient.

Confirmation of receipt of entry and the judges' report will be emailed to you unless you request otherwise.

Summary of Judging Criteria

The judges will be looking for a Society that submits a well presented journal with the best content, both in quality and range of articles and for the quality and diversity of news items and information appropriate to that Society's aims and objectives.

When considering entries, the judges will assess each journal's contribution in three key areas:

  • Presentation
  • Articles
  • Information

Detailed information regarding the criteria are shown on the Judging Criteria page and show some features under each heading which may influence the judges in reaching their decision.

Judging Panel

The entries for the award are assessed by a judging panel of three members, each of whom normally serves a three-year term. It is normally chaired by the longest serving member of the panel, and its composition rotates each year, following the presentation of the report and award for the current year. The current chairman will then stand down and the next most senior member becomes the chairman for the following year's award. A new judge is nominated to join the two remaining members to serve for his or her three-year term. This person will normally be the editor of the most recent winning journal.

For the 2007 Award, the judging panel will be:

  • Pat Fawcett (Chairman) - Cornwall FHS
  • Jacqui Simkins - FHS of Cheshire
  • David Gilligan - North Cheshire FHS
