WELCOME TO OUR BRAND NEW EZINE

What's an ezine, you may ask, and why have I received it?
It's basically an
Electronic magaZINE (so that's how it's pronounced, to rhyme with "gene" as in genealogy).

I say 'basically' because it's closer in purpose to a news-sheet than a magazine, bringing you the latest news and useful information.  Our ezine specialises in doing this in the world of family history in general and of the Federation of Family History Societies in particular.

We live in the 21st century and technology now enables us to live our lives more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Until the end of last year, every time we issued an edition of our Newsflash, we had to physically print off the original, produce hundreds of copies, envelope them individually, and post them all out by mail.  Now we can deliver the original of this, its successor, direct to your computer at a press of a button, saving time and money.  This method will also enable us to be even more up to date in its contents, and to make the photos included in it as colourful as the news items themselves.

Geoff Riggs, FFHS Chairman

It is good to have received four entries already for the Award, and there’s still nearly three months to go!  The deadline is 30 April 2007.  If you are a journal editor, and have never before entered, please think about submitting copies of your ‘best’ editions from 2006.  It doesn’t matter if you have only a few members or many; Jacqui, Pat and I want to see how you communicate with your members via your magazine.  It’s a two-way experience – we are waiting to encourage you and
give you feedback and we can learn from you too.
Sponsorship for this event is being provided by Family History Monthly magazine. The winning society will receive a £100 cheque and the winning editor a year’s magazine subscription.
