The Federation provided visitors with an unusual but very popular stand at this four day event, far removed from card-making and sewing, the main thrust of the exhibition. Nevertheless the Stewards answered numerous enquiries from fellow enthusiasts, many of whom had “done “ the web and now found they had to move beyond it out into the wide world! The aim was not just to answer enquiries but also to encourage people to join a Family History Society to broaden their knowledge and enjoy the benefits membership can bring. This is the second time I have stewarded at the event and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you have the opportunity to do the same at a future exhibition, do take it. You will meet some interesting people and maybe help someone to find their elusive ancestor. Ann Luntley Rugby Family History Group

Webmaster’s Seminar AGM 2008 hosted by Devon FHS & Cornwall FHS in Plymouth at their family history fair on 29th March 2008 1911 census update for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales Last week saw The National Archives (TNA) announce their partner for the digitalisation of the 1911 census (England and Wales). This created the ideal opportunity of giving an update on the status of the 1911 census for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. British author Julie Summers is currently researching and writing a book that will look at the effect that men returning from the Second World War had on family life, seen from the women’s perspective. Julie would very much like to hear from mothers, daughters, grand-daughters, nieces, sisters, carers – anyone who feels that they are prepared to talk to her about their experiences in the post-war years. This is an important and neglected area of social and family history that affects us still today.

The cadet forces at schools were usually a combination of all three services and were run under the title of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF).
