Read the small print
Family historians are regularly pressurised to purchase DNA tests. Those who do so enter into a contract with the firm providing the service. But how many read its complete terms?
A recent BBC report outlines the wide range of rights included in Ancestry's DNA standard contract and concerns that can arise when customers have signed up without understanding the small print. You can discover more from:
- The relevant "You and Yours" programme (starting at 14:40)
- A blog by Joel Winston, an American consumer rights lawyer.
The moral is: Only "click and agree" terms if you understand what they mean.
